Great review! I've read others comment that the FT Audio LW-1 is an outstanding passive linestage and at $500 it is truly a bargain. If I didn't need a remote control I would have tried one myself.I am also a recent convert and believer when it comes to quality passive "preamps". I'm running my Conrad-Johnson Premier 11a tube amp via the 3-input Placette Audio passive linestage with a Cary cd player. The sound is very transparent and not lacking in dynamics or bass and the treble is not rolled off. The "clarity" is amazing and the performance is better focused. Like you, I'm also running a pair of Tannoy D500 speakers.
I've owned many tube and solid-state preamps in the past but for me, nothing beats a high quality passive linestage... key words being "high quality". I've had some less than decent passive units as well.
