Return to K&K Audio / Lundahl Transformers
Sometime ago (July I think)I asked you a question about centre tapped push pull drive from my preamp with the centre tap being earthed. Your, most helpfull, response lead me to the LL1676 driven parafeed by 6AH4GT. Well I have tried it and it sounds grand. Maybe its the centre tapped push pull drive or the fact that the output impedance is so much lower than with my switched transformer volume control (Sowter)but either way there is so much more of everything with this combo. Clearly I have more gain but the whole audio sprectrum seems to have improved.
Andy,
I connected it the "wrong way round" so the usual inputs are my outputs. From memory this makes it 4:1+1. So I have a sub 500R output impedance rather than the 2K as before. The circuit is just so simple. TVC into the grid with a 12v battery for DC offset. 6K8 (from memory) Mills 12W anode load, cathode straight to earth and 1mfd Crescendo cap into the LL1676. Golly it cant get much simpler! The only thing is the heater currents a bit high for a single triode - but thats trivia really. Thanks for your advice. I guess its nice for you to hear when things go well.
I still like the idea of a proper push push drive as I can earth the centre tap in the power amp. I use 22k load resistors per side (in the power amp) but these are effectively bypassed by the low DC resistance of the LL1676. All in all its simple and elegant and so should be right?
