OK, I'm in trouble! I was just getting a great inspiration to graft my Foreplay into my Ella circuit, bypassing the SRPP preamp stage of the Ella. It seemed to work fine, until the kt88s in the right channel flashed blue one after another and then- no music!
I still get a perfect working left channel, even with my foreplay grafted. All the tubes are OK. One possible culprit may be that I was using 3 uF oil caps for coupling in the bad channel only.
My questions are, until I get my DVM back, what can I do to figure out whats wrong? Are 3uF caps too big for coupling? If so, what could have busted? Was it the Foreplay's fault? Etc, Etc, Etc,
Thanks in advance for any help!
Saul

Sorry, I omitted a detail. The Ella busted when I was still using the unmodified preamp stage- the foreplay was simply connected to the inputs.
OK, maybe you've already done this, but if it was me and without a DVM, I'd be looking for components with burn marks - particularly resistors and diodes.
Ive been checking like mad! Still stumped, though.
Thanks for the info.
I already gave a once-over to the resistors, but not the diodes. I'll double check them. Are there any diodes that are specific to one channel? I kinda thought the power supply was pretty much stereo, so i've ignored it. Could the soft start thing have two channels?Since I got my multimeter, ive checked just about everything I could think of ('cept the PS). None of the coupling caps were at fault, the OPTs look good, the last PS caps on both sides behave the same. AARGH! I'm starting to feel like I've missed something really dumb. Thanks again,
saul
What was the point of using 3uf interstage coupling caps? Don't those need to be kept low for good frequency response? I would double check the caps.Check corresponding voltages for each channel, starting with power supply @ the (2)47k parallel resistors. You should be able to find the trail.
Foreplay not really a good match due to Ellas high sensitivity, alth
Good luck, let us know what you find,
Mark
