Dan, I agree exactly. The 1543 has a slight sonic edge over the 1541 chip set in the Magnavox CD players I own. The 1541 is so smooth, but I like the 1543 performance in my audio system. The 1543 is also smooth, not edgy.
I also find these Magnavox plays any CD including CDR.
