RE: Karlson coupler kount 2012 (including K-tube)

Posted by IG on June 7, 2012 at 05:31:43:

In a an effort to thin the herd, I'm only gonna be keeping the little SK8 and my pair of K-Tubes.

The K-Tube is very nice indeed. As noted, there is no real gain like a horn and I see it more as a waveguide of sorts. Sounds uncolored and actually measures well (that's a big plus for a Karlson-thing! :) ) If what Dr. Geddes says about a good WG, that their impedance plot should only be two peaks and that anymore means unwanted resonances, holds water when looking at such a device, then the K-Tube is looking pretty good.

I've had a small conical wood horn at 3kHz and a mini-Smith horn also around 3kHz, playing on top of Fostex FF225WK in this little SK8, both with good integration. The Smith did somewhat better though. The K-Tube blended even better on the larger K12; next step will be to try it on the SK8.
