RE: 15 watts enough for 90 dB speakers?

Posted by Mick Wolfe on February 3, 2012 at 09:28:23:

If you listen to rock, big band or full blown classical approaching 90 db......no. And in my experience, EL84 amps don't maintain the sense of ease when pushed to the same degree as amps using EL34's, 6550's , etc....laws of physics/ power again. I'm using a 60 watt tube amp into 90db GMA Europas in a small room and I wouldn't want to use anything less than a 40 watter. That said, my friend's 10 watt 300B SET sounds fairly decent into 90 db, but would probably really cook into an upper 90's or 100 db speaker.
