I have owned these speakers for just under one year and thought it time to contribute a review. I purchased them used on Audiogon for $1000.00 which i thought was a very good buy. They arrived in their original packaging, which incidentally is triple boxed, looking wonderful in their rosewood veneer.I have them mounted on Target stands in my living room about 10 ft apart and 36 inches off the rear wall. I have been driving them with my old NAD C340 but have been auditioning various tube amps during this time. My source is a Sony scd-c333es running through an Adcom GDA-600. Cables are Analysis plus 9
I had listened to a large variety { Totem,Soliloquay,Meadowlark,Dynaudio,B&W,Spendor etc.}of speakers before I made this choice. This has been one of my better decisions as I can say that I am very pleased with what I am hearing. I am a big classical buff, and these silverlines excel with this type of music. They can go very loud but as I have small children in the house I have to keep it down to a reasonable level at night. I find that they still have good clear definition at lower volume levels and don"t lose the emotion in the music. While trying them with the tube amps {specifically Jolida,CJ cav50,cary integrated } I have found a whole new side to music. Tube amps give these speakers an ability to reach inside the music and take you there with them. I have never heard sound like this before. Now I know that this is probably due to my inexperience with high end audio and that I'm probably boring you all to death, but I don"t care. I love the sound that these speakers give me and I can"t wait to buy my first good tube amp.
I tested the speakers with one of the Stereophile test cds when I first got them. The bass response appears to go down to about 38 hz which I think is more than adequate. Treble is smooth, not strident like the totems and B&Ws. I will keep these speakers for a long time.
Steve.
