Hi there!

I started this text as answer to a thread but desided then to a review insted. It's my first one and english is not my mother tongue so please be clement... ;-)

The Boesendorfer speakers are constructed by a guy named "Hans Deutsch", an in Austria and Germany well known speaker designer (don't know about other contries) with an own company too (ATL). Since 30 years he goes ways far up from the mainstream in designing speakers. The results are interesting: as I saw, nobody has an indifferent opinion about his speakers after listening to them: Either you love them or you find them very wrong.

I heared Deutsch speakers the first time 20 years ago and as you guess, I loved them! :)

Now the Boesendorfer loudspeakers are (as far as I know) the last constructions of Deutsch and are manufactured by Boesendorfer, the wellknown top-of-the-line piano facotry. That brings a very high quality an a very good and exclusive appearance to the product. (That was in the past not really the strength of Deutsch speakers! ;-)

At that point I have to tell my astonishment about their (non-) marketing: As far as I know they had two articles in german magazines and that's it! No advertisement, nothing! Also I think, the have no distribution outside Europa, so listening in USA or Canada my be impossible…

Now some words about the sound of the M2s:

Especially with acoutical instruments the sound is very unartifical: When I close my eyes, I get the imagination that there is really playing a saxophon or a piano or a string quartet or a big band or an ochestra or whatever. In my opinion other speakers I heared (B&W, Tannoy, Canton…) are always sounding like loudspeakers, reproducing something. I always hear the speakers itself.

And I think that’s the reason, why listening with the M2s is so far from exhausting: Also (for me) difficult music like Ligeti, Schoenberg or the late Coltrane I can listening to hours and hours without getting tired! An other interesting thing is volume level: When my Lady-Friend comes in and says something, it’s always a astounding, how loud the music is without beeing bothering!

So the really strength of the M2 is playing everything acoustical. It’s so close to my impressions from concerts and practicing (I’m a hobby musician). Of course, the speaker can reproduce everything satifying, but probably you can get better speakers for heavy metall, techno or synth music and similar things...

The image characteristic is a bit far, indirect, diffuse, like sitting in a (good) concert hall in the middle or a bit behind. The locating is good.

So, to come to an end: If you have the possibility to try these speakers, do it! Especially for classical music, jazz and folk you can get IMHO no better speakers for that money. But you have to find out if they hit your taste!

Greetings, Ganzbaf
