for the S-7100A

This receiver was Sherwood's early 70s entry level model. 17 watts-per-channel of tubesque warmth, an audiophile-quality f.m. tuner section, and a euphonic phono preamp makes the 7100A an easy-on-the-ear relic of a bygone era where quality reigned supreme! There are audio hobbyists who prefer lower wattage amplification through efficient speaker systems, and don't find mega-wattage amps musically satisfying. As Roy Gregory Bargy noted in his August 1991 Hi-Fi World column, "they simply can't match the finesse and dynamic resolution of smaller units, nor the sheer speed and clout that they give to a system. Big amps may give you big peak-to-peak dynamic swings, but they happen so slowly"! Sherwood's 7100A is an ideal receiver for those practitioners! For modders who want to unleash the 7100A's clean, crisp, amp potential, replace those thin stock speaker wires, along with the f.e.t.-to-amp board wires, with 16 gauge speaker wire!

Product Weakness: Stock amp wiring needs to be modded; F.M. reception also benefits by replacing stock antenna input wiring with shielded phono cable; A.M. reception perfunctory at best
Product Strengths: 17 watts-per-channel of F.E.T. warmth, audiophile-quality tuner, euphonic phono pre-amp for vinyl junkies
