for the PG7-45
Peter Gabriel's So is an album that is arguably his best and has just about something for every music lover. It is by far his most sucessful.
I am an admitted fan of Classic Record's Clarity Vinyl 45RPM box set series and this is the fourth I have purchased from this series. I auditioned this with my back up cartridge, a stock Denon DL-103R, and as impressive as it is, I expect it to be a good deal better when my regular cartridge arrives back from Soundsmith with it's new cantilever and stylus.
There is not much to say other than this is as good a pressing I have ever heard of this LP and I imagine it is as good a pressing as ever will be made of this LP. It is pressed on Clarity Vinyl, which is a milky colored translucent vinyl, at 45RPM, each LP weighs in at 200 grams and is pressed in Classic's flat LP profile.
There are four LPs that make up the box set with 2 cuts of the first LP (Red Rain, Sledgehammer), 2 on the second LP (Don't Give Up, That Voice Again), 2 on the third (Mercy Street, Big Time) and three cuts on the last LP (We Do What We're Told, This Is The Picture, In Your Eyes). Each LP is one sided with a strobo pattern on the label of the flat, flip side.
The dynamics, transparency and realism of all the cuts is something to appreciate with Kate Bush's backup vocal on Don't Give Up and the dynamics of Big Time a real attention grabber. Those aren't the only highlights but compared to an already great presentation of a great album they are some of the moments that got my attention.
The pressings are flat, quiet and what we love to see in all respects. The box set comes with a gatefold reproduction of the original So cover that includes a fold out in the gatefold with the lyrics and credits for each cut.
If you care about top quality pressings, and like the album, this is one to have. I believe that the Clarity Vinyl 45RPM box set is limited to a production run of 5000 copies and that is another inspiration to spring for the set. It should end up being worth quite a bit more than the asking price.
Product Weakness: None except there are 2 - 3 cuts per side but this is a product that concentrates on sound quality first. Product Strengths: Everything
