I received my Millennium DAC yesterday, (2/15/00), from Electronic Visionary Systems (EVS). I'd been #1 on the waiting list for some time, initial impressions are it was well worth the wait.

Ric Schultz had been modifying the MSB Link DAC for a while and decided he could build a better DAC from scratch for similar cost.

The Millenium is a $650 24/192 based unit with a parts list, build quality and attention to detail that can compare to some of the best digital gear money can buy. It's got dual internal power supplies, Caddocks, Vishays, Elna Cerafines, damping, hard wired inputs, and shielding galore. There is a little toggle switch for 44.1/48 or 88.2/96 input and an IEC cord jack. That's it, not even an LED for power, (noisy buggers).

Includes RCA and balanced in, with standard unbalanced out and an option for balanced outs. Ric is designing an I2S input upgrade, (to interface with the Perpetual Tchnologies P-1A or it's ilk).

The design is such that EVS plans to offer inexpensive SACD and DVD-A upgrades, as well as reasonable upsampling options.

I will refrain from commenting too much on the sound before conducting more extensive listening tests, but you might want to get on the waiting list for this model as production is very limited for now... (30 day trial.)

Dare I suggest, this DAC can compete with ANYTHING available.
