John, while I would concede that Conrad Hoffman's math is accurate I am less confident that a printed paper protractor could be aligned as accurately as a mirrored laser drawn protractor.
Setting aside the precision/accuracy of the drawn arc, there is also the precision of the centre hole cutout and the issue of parallax error when aligning the cantilever.
I've been using the mirrored MintLp protractor for a few years and would never go back to using a paper protractor. When you align with finely drawn and precision made protractor like the Mint you know you have it exactly right.
Obviously the Uni-protractor is in another price class to the MintLp.
For some who have spent $1000's on their cartridges, have multiple tables/arms etc - the price will hardly be an issue. IMO the construction quality, ease of use and precision of alignment go a long way towards justifying the Uni-protractors price. I'd much rather have a tool like that than, say, some multi $K 'audiophile' cable.
Cheers - Paul
