You're forgetting that the easiest tonearm to align is the SME with its variable mounting distance and fixed effective length. I guess I've been spoiled by owning SME tonearms most of my life. In my estimation, if you want to spend extra money to simplify tonearm alignment, the money would be much better spent to improve the tonearm than the protractor. I think all tonearms should have variable mounting distances and fixed effective lengths.
