That is the OEM spec. But many users find that fitting an PSU with 3.4 amp or higher improve sound quality.
No luck with Maplins, RS, Farnell, Rapid, CPS, Crickewood, etc.
They all supply adaptors with 9V AC output of less than 1200 mAIf I can't find one off the shelf, I can get a toroidal tranny such as 50VA with 2 x 9VAC at 2.78 amps from Maplins (VS14Q). But I have seen caps and resistors inside wallwarts. Don't know what they are or how to build one.
