I think PS Audio is a very underappreciated company. For almost 20 years I owned their 200c power amp, which required no service and performed with great musicality for the time--plenty of current for electrostats, too. Now I use their speaker cable, which I feel is also unfairly dismissed, mostly by people who've probably never heard it. I've just ordered a pair of their old Statement interconnects to warm up my digital front end a tad--I'd found the speaker cable valuable in this regard for the whole system: it has the old-time audio merits of warmth and musicality. Isn't neutrality better? a. it depends upon your system, and b. not really. Stereophile, for example, seems to be discovering, in their new series of reviews of vintage gear, that the old-time audio values had considerable merit: the system isn't supposed to just reproduce signals; it's supposed to PLAY MUSIC. This is what makes my McIntosh MR 71 such a pleasure to listen to, euphonic distortions or not.I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that Paul McGowan shares these values to some extent, this in spite of his claims of neutrality for his new electronics.
