I am not sure about this "grand convergence". I believe the press or reviewers are largely responsible for this -- promoting *neutality* (a dangerous word), stereotyping *coloration* tube sound as coloration, etc. Do they know what they are talking about? Probably not. Amp makers, on the other hand, then tried to get favorable reviews/publicity and good sale....
