1st impressions of the Nola Viper 1A AlNiCo tweeter upgrade..

... as it stands after 35 hrs of music time, these are miles ahead sonically from the stock ceramic 25mm dipole dome tweeter used in the 1A and llA models. AFAIK, these are the same dipole dome tweeters used in the Viper Reference ll and the new Reference lll and as per Nola, are a drop-in upgrade requiring no x-over mods.

With the AlNiCo magnet midrange and the twin AlNiCo ring magnet tweeter upgrades implemented on the 1A's, I can see/hear why the Viper Reference ll is getting such rave reviews... the music just flows out effortlessly with no hint of dynamic compression and with a high/midrange response completely free of any hardness or transient edge smear.

Odd as it may sound, the new tweeters even tightend up the bass response with instrument placement on/in the soundstage solidified which improved front to back instrument placement as well. The reproduction of wood sticks striking brass cymbals has real weight behind it and easily reveals the subtle timing and pressure differences during ride cymbal stretches.

Of course, poor recordings are not magically transformed and are still poor but are now easily listened to with no listener fatigue leading to long listening sessions that have one digging out old faves looking for new nuances of which many have been found!

A bargain is something each individual must weigh with respect to his/her own financial situation but for this audio enthusiast/listener,
these tweeter upgrades are worth every penny Nola is asking for them
with the ROI being a downright steal IMHO.

Can't wait to get 100+ hours on them cause if they're this good now...

~
