Thanks for the compliment..."Too often "The People" are duped by self serving politicians who's agenda isn't what's best for the country or the people. Here I would like to specify that I refer to politicians in general, as both partys are equally guilty."...
I suspect that this is a truly world-wide characteristic, and certainly not limited to Republican or Democrat politicians... :o)
"Nazi Germany's fervor was based on a strong sense of Facism (wrapped in a cloak of Ultra-Nationalism, which is the same thing but sounds benign.)"...
I suspect that fascism was easier to accept when sold on the grounds of regaining personal pride and national respect, as the Party would naturally have always concentrated on the positives in their policies, leaving little natural scope for folk to calmly reflect on possible negatives...
"I see no significant parallel between us and Nazi Germany. I don't
believe you were trying to make a specific comparison, except that we must be careful to prevent our government from leading us happily down a path we don't wish to go, and I agree."...You are broadly correct in that assumption... The only possible parallel that may be significant is that propaganda (intellectually dishonest interpretations introduced specifically to persuade folk to accept or adopt particular biased views) was viewed as being a primary factor in the conditioning of the public, by Goebbels and the party he represented...
Propaganda and it's cynical use certainly did not cease with the death of Goebbels(!), and each time an obvious devotion to a flag is displayed there are inevitable echoes from the past to remind us of the dangers of such cultural devotion, as well as it's benefits...
Bill.
