I believe caution and vigilance are themselves virtues to be valued and of paramount imprortance in this Republic. Too often "The People" are duped by self serving politicians who's agenda isn't what's best for the country or the people. Here I would like to specify that I refer to politicians in general, as both partys are equally guilty.
But the most significant value, and the one which I hold most dear to my heart is individual liberty. Patrick Henry once said:
"Suspicion is a virtue as long as its object is the public good, and as long as it stays within proper bounds. ... Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect every one who approaches that precious jewel."
This is the fundamental guideline I use when examining a politican's policys and motives.
In my opinion, most politicians only pay lip service to this most fundametal principal on which our country was founded, and usually will happily ignore it if it suits their agenda. Some of them will look you right in the eye and tell you they want to take it away, but you must listen carefully. Unless of course it's a "liberty" that really isn't a "liberty" at all, but they twist things so well, we just happily accept the crap they feed us.
Nazi Germany's fervor was based on a strong sense of Facism (wrapped in a cloak of Ultra-Nationalism, which is the same thing but sounds benign.)
I see no significant parallel between us and Nazi Germany. I don't
believe you were trying to make a specific comparison, except that we must be careful to prevent our government from leading us happily down a path we don't wish to go, and I agree.
Another major difference is that during the rise of Nazi Germany, one of the goals was to be a World superpower. The goal of our country now seems to be setting up a global situation in which the "elite" will be able to do as they wish and "The People" will be weakened subjects.
Just my opinion.
