The Bush Administration, rightly or wrongly (you can guess my sentitments) made the decision that we should

1) take the conflict to the enemy overseas
2) break the back of the religeous hegemony that was the foundation for the attacks against us by installing a civil governent that would concentrate power outside of the mosques, a government that would hopefully serve as a model for and spread throughout the greater middle east.

However lofty the objectives, if we do not succeed, it will be deemed one of the great geo-political blunders of American history. On the other hand, if we do ...
