The more important message it sends to the industry is that if they fight a protracted legal battle, the chances of you escaping rises significantly. It means that many large corporations now look at the courts as their ally not a potential adversary which could be actually punitive. This tactic has already been utilized by the pharmaceutical firms where they can command a huge array of legal counsel prolonging any court decision to the point where most of the plaintiffs will have died.Considering that the captain was supposedly inebriated when the ship struck, the decision actually marks a death blow for the common man. It is the mark of the supremacy of the large corporation.
And I bet the favorable decision won't lower any gas prices either.
