It is amazing how even those who lionized Her Hillariousness as the candidate of inevitability, those who lauded Her Husbandness as the greatest politician in America, now see fit to heap ridicule upon them.
Well, I guess when you go from having a cloak of inevitability to being the Empress with no clothes, and your subjects no longer have need to fear you, they feel free to speak their minds.
A number of us have noted the astonishing lack of support the Dirty Duo received from the Democratic party's top brass -- starting with Kennedy, and Shriver, and Kerry, and Richardson, and so many others, and leading most recently to McGovern and Bubba Boy's own hand-picked former DNC chairman, Paul Kirk. Now, there even appears to be an avalanche of Super Delegates jumping ship.
It couldn't happen to two nicer people!
There seems to have been a well of discontent, if not downright comptempt for the Dirty Duo, even within their own party. And when your vaunted political machine gets out-hustled by a first-term senator who was a virtual unknown to most Americans until even a few months ago, and you can't even stage a comeback on the heals of firestorm of bad Obama publicity, and you can't get no respect from Super Delegates who owe their very status to your Husband's political success and largesse, I guess the Munchkins can all come out and sing ...
"DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!""
There is only ONE reason some people are still hedging their bets: no one knows whether or not there will be yet another negative publicity storm surrounding Obama. Her Hillariousness, once the candidate of inevitability, has become a rainy day insurance policy with a very high premium.
It was struck today that CNN, one of the officially sanctioned DNC house organs, ran a story about it being the 8th anniversary of Al Gore's "I invented the interenet" interview. The piece, as much as anything else, seemed like an attempt to pick Gore up, dust him off, and refurbish his reputation. I expect to see many more of these stories in the coming weeks, all with the eye of turning to a Gore candidacy should Obama faulter.
You have to wonder if the Dirty Duo's contention that there will be a nasty October Surprise to sink Obama is another example of their bare-knuckled political skullduggery, or if there actually IS something behind the assertion.
Thanks for the head up, Ivan!
