I'm not sure how representative AA is of "America." My sense is that we are a rather sifted and highly self-indulgent group of individuals here -- myself included.
I'm not sure what you mean by the American media being "negative" about "all things American."
I am personally very unhappy with the "American Media." Yet, it is so multifarious and multifaceted, it's hard to make any categorial statements. While I despise the political hatchet jobs perpetrated by "The Slimes", I admire the scope and intelligence of "The Times" in other respects. While I agree with the political perspective of Fox and Limbaugh, their penchant for demagoguery makes me uncomfortable at times. I think the WSJ does a good job. But so do many others. Teh Christian Science Monitor comes to mind. Yet, I am not a regular consumer of ANY particular media source. If there is one thing I would like to see done with regard to our media, it would be the strenuous application of anti-trust statutes. We need more voices ... more regional voices ... more perspectives ... not more media buying opportunities for Anheuser-Busch and Walmart. The FCC does not agree with me. Neither do either of our political parties.
The internet is our media version of the Wild West. I don't think information has EVER been misused or misconstrued with such impugnity and cynicism as it is on the net. At the same time, it has made more information and opinion more readily accessible to more people more quickly than at any other time in human history.
The American Media and the World Media are rapidly becoming the same thing. Murdoch and Bertlesman, for instance, have MAJOR stakes in our media mix. Then of course, there's Soros.
What were we talking about anyway, Soxes?
