Norm, you are correct in that there is now only one hanger manufacturer in the U.S. I am in the hanger business, so to speak. I sell them directly to the Dry Cleaners. Until recently we had also switched to selling Chinese hangers, but recently, due to the tariffs, Chinese New Year, long waitng periods for hangers to arrive by boat on containers( that's the only way they'll ship) and other variables, the pricing of Chinese hangers is closer to the U.S. made hangers now, not to mention that U.S.-made hangers are better quality, even though the Chinese had bettered their quality over these last few years. The Dry Cleaning businesses are shrinking due to constant rising costs, as well as taxes imposed by using Perchlorethelene, unfortunately the best dry-cleaning chemical there is. Many cleaners have resorted to using less-harmful dry cleaning chemicals, such as the Petroleum-type solvents made by Exxon and Chevron. Unfortunately, these new solvents don't clean any where nearly as well as Perc, and they have other problems in usage that perc doesn't have, i.e. bad odor. My suggestion is to don't buy clothes that require dry-cleaning and launder your own. That's what I do now. YMMV
