The USA has a higher percentage share of global manufacturing output than it had in 1980.

From 1994-2004 China lost 25 Million manufacturing jobs - 10-TIMES the number lost in the USA.

As an aside - I heard a radio commentator say that when he was in fourth grade in the mid sixties - his teacher was telling him THEN not to count on the high paying union jobs as they would soon disappear.
