And yet occassionally I find myself using such superfluous filler words. "Dude" "Like" etc. Brrrr. It starts as a joke, mockery even, and then slowly infects one's speech until it requires a conscious effort to eliminate the usage completely!Some usage of slang I believe can be expessive and creative in a positive way. But filler words and expressions are irritating.
And it's not just slang. My stepfather used to sprinkle his speech with phrases like "so to speake" and "as it were" (always said with great solemnity or a knowing chuckle). Never knew what he thought they added.
