I'm not convinced that history supports that argument. If we look at Presidential campaigns from say 1913 to 1970 who would you identify as the great leaders that emerged? Aside from F.D.R. and some fringe players it doesn't look much better to me than current offerings.
I do think the primary process is flawed and I think the way mass media covers political races is appalling but I'm not willing to go back to the smoke filled rooms either. The party leaders of both parties are just ethically challenged gas bags. If you need names named I'd be happy to supply them but they should be obvious to all but the blindly obedient.
