So you medical team consists of Doctors Smith And Wesson? or Doctor Colt?

There is a slightly famous short story by Ray Bradbury which was also turned into a part of the film "The Illustrated Man" Where a future society dreamed of a catastrophic disaster. So the families decided to 'spare the children' and kill them first. Problem was the disaster was the killing of all the children.
So unless the end is really really painful, I would never take a preemptive strike.
