Problem is the stadium.
Originally called the San Diego Stadium, it was later renamed Jack Murphy Stadium and still later became Qualcomm.
It is from the Late 60s and is baseball / football friendly. That' means it's not great for either.
At about 50 years old, it is now well past its prime.
Chargers tried to hold up the city to build 'em a new stadium, like the Padres got. Petco, for the Padres is a near-perfect baseball park. It has great views from anywhere.
I write if all off to Greed. Now the Chargers will share a stadium with another team. So for Every Sunday during the season, the neighbors will be subject to all the massive dislocations that go along with 50,000 people and thousands of cars. Not to mention the Superbowl which will come sooner than later.
San Diego may NOW be better off. We may get a team that wants to move and is More Willing to spend the big bucks for a new stadium.
Stay Tuned.
Too much is never enough
