Many pollutants out there, but some nastier than others. I suspect that Bay Area coastal inversions play a part in trapping key chemical and particulates. Bakersfield and the Central Valley overall have high pollution, but I think agri biz dirt and fertilizers are the primary ingredients. Again, such rankings depend on specific cocktails as well as totals.
If looking at relocation, consider higher elevations; avoid valleys, sink holes and depressions adjacent to mountain ranges.
