RE: Newsflash: Brazil was colonized by the Portuguese, not the Spanish ;-)

Sure, smart aleck.

There were Hispanics who spoke "Spanish" and there were Hispanics who spoke Portugese, but they were all "Hispanics".

The Portugal at the time of the early conquests Portugal had only recently divided itself from the "Spain" but more importantly the Portugese were basically "Spanish" in faith, outlook and style of leadership (except for some differences in the way their governments granted or divided land). Some at the time, including some Spaniards, did not consider the Portugese to be anything but Spaniards, really. They had the same modus operandi.

And I would opine that part of the reason these "Spanish" countries have been so susceptible to "covert destabilization" efforts, is because of the corrupt character instilled by "Spanish culture" from centuries prior.

The extreme "macho" culture instilled by *Iberian* culture combined with the Roman Catholic mandate to breed like rabbits (no matter how little money was available for family life) certainly did not help their chances any.
