Sorry, the military isn't Walmart. He was indeed asking for emergency leave, a ridiculous reason, NOT because of his gender (although his superior probably should've kept his mouth shut) but because 'parties' are not a valid reason to take emergency leave.Had he been asking for regular leave with adequate notice (and then denied) then yes, he has a legit reason to be pissed.
What many don't understand is if you allow this guy to take "emergency" leave for a 'baby shower' not only will you have to grant everyone else's request (for similar ridiculous reasons), but your own superiors will wonder if you're even capable of being a leader. Can you imagine doing a person's work (in addition to your own) for a few days because he (or she!) decided to drop everything to attend a party? C'mon...Again sorry, but that's just the way it is.
