It has been noticed that some bears will frantically dig up the ground where pepper spray mist has fallen as if in search of some delicious buried treasure. They seem to savor the taste once it has degraded a bit, so remember to set up camp away far away from the scene of any spraydown.Military grade Mace might be the better choice for some self-defense applications, at least when dealing with real animals rather than intoxicated humans.
