One scenario: Drive to, park, check in, walk to and through, TSA fondling, time to gate, to wait at gate, get all on board and settled, push back, and taxi.
Then rinse and repeat at destination end, retrieve bags, arrange ground travel, then travel ground.
How far can you drive in 3 to 4 hours? Then add an extra 2 hours worth of distance for compensation of strenuous stress and hassle. Flying distance needs to exceed that.
6 hours of driving at 60 mph = 360 miles; about an hour of flying; making total air time investment of say, 7 hours. This makes a good equivalent; no overnight charges.
