After deciding on FIXED BLADE or FOLDER, you have 2 major decisions left.1. WHO makes the knife? Buck? Gerber? Spyderco? Kershaw? Benchmade?
My opinion is Buy American.2. STEEL. read the article about steel I linked. Good infor with valuable Vocabulary. My Spyderoco uses S30V, an American Steel from a company called Crucible. It's also a BEAR to sharpen but does hold an edge very well
My opinion also includes avoiding Chinese Stainless. American Labor? American parts? American steel.
Plan on about 100$ while the BUCK Folding Hunter is now about 50$, but uses 'only' 440HC steel.BTW, a knife delivered to you UNSHARP, can be fixed easily. Many sharpensing systems available. Best might be the Spyderco 'rods'. Skip the belt sander thing. Learn to use a 'steel'. I've got a ceramic rod with 1200 grit diamond. Makes an amazing sharp finish.
I need to get a leather strophe.
Too much is never enough
