Take look at task bar options (right click on the task bar). There's a setting that turns off the stacking of app icons on the task bar - same as in win7. And hit settings off the start button. Select the tile for hardware/apps (or something like that - don't have the machine handy doing this from memory). Down at the bottom of the resulting screen there's a link to the familiar old control panel where you can adjust your touch pad. Or you can do same thing through that hardware/apps tile.
