got around to clearing out a wood pile on the side of my house..oh and btw

the myth about spiders lurking in wood piles is more than true, when I got to the bottom layer of my pile I turned a plank over and saw a few 'rolli polli bugs, a few caterpillars, a handfull of earwigs (pincher bugs) but best of all a nice little adolescent black widow (yikes!). By the time I went to grab my phone camera it of course was long gone, upset by the intense light and me disturbing it's nap. After a carpet bombing of Raid spray over the entire area I resumed back to work...but wait it gets even better: came back to finish, grabbed another 4x6, slammed it on the cement to get rid of the dried leaves and spider webs, a friggin' brown recluse came skedaddlin' outta there.

A black widow I can handle, they're not so quick; but a friggn B. Recluse is faster than greased goose sh*t- and pretty darn (neuro)toxic! That was it, time to recoup. Grabbed the can of Raid again and did another agent orange sweep on the entire area (probably didn't accomplish anything but I had to do something). Took a breather, went back out and finished up.

Moral of the story: don't let wood pile up in the dark, shaded areas, be wary of knotted wood that isn't knotted so much (they like hidin' in the hollowed out areas) AND WEAR FRIGGIN' GLOVES!

nothing to see here, move along..
