Heard on the radio he died. Not a big surprise as he had written articles about the melanoma in his eye that was found a few months ago in his liver, leading to a terminal prognosis.

I have read many of his books over the years. They were thought provoking in important ways. Our brains define us, yet they fail and our whole identity can change in strange ways.

Most recently I read his autobiography, on the move. This revealed much more to me of who he was as a person. There was a sort of sad undertone to the book as most of the important people in his life were now dead. And I knew that he was in a terminal condition as well.

I will miss his writings and I mourn for this obsessive and solitary man who had such a rich life.
