It's a long way from you folks, but this mine is in the old copper mining region in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (most of the population, including Detroit is in the lower). Part of the Upper includes the smaller Keeweenaw Peninsula jutting into Lake Superior. Mountainous country; very old mountains with some of the oldest rocks in North America containing iron and copper deposits. Mostly all played out now. Last century saw Welsh, Germans, and Finns come over to mine. The Yoopers today are mostly descendants. Lake Superior is a cold one; bringing in real winters. Very beautiful country there. Other parts of the UP as well as the LP are fairly flat.
