The four pots were assembled by VW in Osnabrück and the six pots by Porsche in Zuffenhausen.
It's spiritual successor was the 924 again jointly designed by VW and Porsche and made by Audi in Neckarsulm using the engine designed for the Audi 100. VW withdrew from the project and this one was sold as a Porsche everywhere.
At the time Porsche designed most if not all VW/Audi engines.
Internal cooperation got even closer when Porsche heir Ferdinand Piëch became VW/Audi CEO.
Together with some of his relatives and a couple of Arabs he now owns the lot but the german state of Lower Saxony retains its 20% holdings in VW/Audi.
