Scherzer 7 years / 210 million to Nats

I'm not happy with that as a Nats fan. While it may affect trades still to be made before the season starts the Nats already had about the best starting pitching in the NL if not the majors.

They need offensive help more than anything. Why spend 210 million for a guy that plays every 5 days? That money could have easily gotten TWO all star caliber offensive starters that play every day. They also traded their best reliever Tyler Clippard for Yuniel Escobar! What? Yes they did that. Clippard who has the best numbers of ANY reliever over the last 5 years.

Also some of Scherzers numbers have declined. Sure, not a lot but when you spend $210 million you shouldn't get any declines. His WHIP went from a league best .970 in 2013 to 1.175 in 2014. Also he pitched 6 more innings in 2014 than 2013 but allowed 44 more hits (reflected in his higher WHIP)

So his numbers are still top shelf but even w/o the small declines I'd pass on him because the Nats have other more pressing needs. Other needs that have made themselves abundantly clear in their post season appearances in 2012 and 2014. OFFENSE!
