RE: Which car did you learn how to drive a manual tranny?

Learned in a RENTAL truck when I drove with my dad from Miami to Chicago to pick up some furniture. Driving the loaded truck BACK was a good way to learn how/when to shift.
While in chicago, I drove a friends stick shift pickup. This would be in '68 during the Republican National Convention.
MY first stick shift car was a VW Beetle. A '73 SuperBeetle. And Yes, once you were rolling, it was 'clutch optional' if you shifted during the 'slack' time between gears. NEVER a glitch or missed shift. You learned to 'rev match' by ear and not 'torque' it.
Heel and toe could be learned in this car, too and I learned correctly with NO clutch riding in turns or coasting thru corners in 4th, than downshifting OUT of the turn. Both bad habits.
