RE: Seen the new Honda Civic R commercial?

Wife is in mood for new car. Maybe a '15, but she might wait, too. Her Camry has 100k and needs a LITTLE work. Nothing drastic. It had a water pump at about 45k which really set me off.

Anyway, the Civic R is MANUAL only which lets it out of contention. The wife is, with my help, targeting in on something like the Mazda6 which SHOULD be available with a Diesel by the time we go to buy.

I like the VW but they are BORING. No Beatle need apply.

The Audi A3? I think that's more than we can afford. But I do like it. The sportwagon or whatever they call it is NICE.

Chevy Cruz has a Diesel model, but the engine is not as refined as the others.

Honda has yet to be heard from at least in the US market while the Dodge / Jeep has access to a very nice 3.0 Diesel with IMMENSE torque. But I don't want a Jeep or Dodge truck. Cadillac was at one point negotiating for the same engine.
I think a DIESEL FIT would be killer. A CVT or Dual clutch auto of maybe 100hp and 150+ft/lb of twist. That'd get to you 50mpg road mileage and put many hybrids right out to lunch.

Wife likes the FIAT500, too, but I'm working to talk her OUT of that move. Very LOW power, while the 500L has the turbo motor and a dual clutch auto. I need to do more research of the FIAT offerings. I may RENT one for a couple days, just to check out the basic auto.

And finally? The MINI has a 1.5l engine which is a 3 cylinder. I don't know. Power and torque are there ON PAPER, but still? The 2.0 is the 'big' engine, using the same pistons and tooling as the 3 banger. The OPTION list is Off-Putting with literally optional ANYTHING from seats to wacky chrome / paint schemes.

Too much is never enough
