I am not keen at all on the idea of tanks for compressed H2 aging away all over the planet. The first oil-shock caused me to attend most of the Australian Senate Select Committee on on Alternative Energy Policy and that switched me on.
We bought the house we still live in in 1981. Its long side runs due East-West +/- 5deg. So it faces North across the back part of the block.
We built a wide and deep shade-cloth and clear-roofed timber pergola, along this North facing side to shade the house in Summer, and to let warm air build up under it in Winter, which we then pump into the house.
The shade cloth is two layers thick and clips on under the clear roof. Need to get it up there RSNow.
Each year we make modifications to the house. Next will be more wind-resistant side-shade curtains, which will trap more warm air that can be pumped into the house, further reducing our use of natural gas, in Winter.
We will be buying a more fuel efficient car than the Camry soon, a Corolla. Likely a new one through my BILaw who has a dealer's license. I believe they make a Corolla 5door hatch with a CVT transmission. yes?
I will also look into the costs/benefits of a used 'fleet type' (3yrs max age) Prius at the auctions with my BIL's help. Here in Aussie these are usually well maintained as part of the fleet contract, so I am told.
Most of the mains electricity generated near here is Hydro so I can live with re-charging a Prius from the mains.
