Lake effect snow is caused by the warm water of the lake in the path of the storm. The lake gives up additional moisture to the storm and thus contributes 'extra' snow to the snowfall. The eastern shore of the State of Michigan gets a lot of lake effect snow. And Buffalo is famous for the lake effect snow it gets.
So though this storm was bigger than usual.. It is very typical for Buffalo.
And Buffalo has the snow removal equipment to deal with it.
If it was snow like that in Washington DC.. There you got a crazy happening.
