I spent nearly forty years living there, dealing with that crap, and I don't miss it a bit. I went through the blizzard of 1977, and another one in 1985.
Couple the weather to a huge collapse of blue-collar jobs (for reasons of Central political neutrality I won't give my opinion on the "why" of that), and I've never been homesick. Twenty years of sporadic employment coupled with the harsh winters was more than enough for me.
It's nice in the summer though, and Niagara Falls is worth seeing.
