There is life after divorce ... a better life ...

...at least for me.

I want to thank you all again for the advice given the last time I posted. I have taken much of it to heart. I thought I'd give you guys an update and let you know I am doing very well and have adjusted to single life in marvelous fashion. I'm really enjoying things.

One night I was listening to music late at night with my headphones and a big smile came across my face when it dawned on me that I didn't have to keep things quiet at night anymore and turned on my speakers for the first time in ages. They sound great !

I'm reveling in the small things ...like seeing any movie I want, whenever I want. Eating whatever I want, whenever I want (...and I've lost 5 pounds too !). I think the most fun though was finally being able to have a pool table. My ex nixed that idea and we had a piano the kids took lessons on until they both fessed up that they hated it. During the divorce the piano was sold and a big, beautiful chunk of floor space became available ...

That's an 8' Olhausen with 7/8" slate. Shopping for it was a lot of fun. Craigslist is chock full of pool tables and as with any good deals on CL, timing is everything. I paid more to have this table moved and re-felted than I paid for the table. I looked at five or six tables, most of which were described as "mint" but were anything but. This one was described as "good" and is actually excellent. I was looking for a black table and as it turns out they are not all that common.

Note the art, which was previously not allowed in the living room. That's a limited edition Ogden Pleissner published in 1957. I doubt my ex would approve of the cue rack either ...or the Chet Reneson fly fishing print which now hangs in the bedroom. I've really enjoyed turning the house into my house.

With the exception of the carpet, everything in the picture above is new to the house courtesy of CL, Estate Sales and a sales woman at Raymour & Flanigan who was willing to negotiate. The Edison machine belonged to my Dad's mother. It has a broken gear and as soon as my financial situation settles down a bit I'm going to have it mechanically restored. Its a magnificent machine which was relegated to the attic as my ex found it ugly.

Do any of you guys play pool? If so, I have a question for you. My pool table came with a ton of accessories. The guy essentially made me buy the whole room, but the price was right and I've sold much of it so the table was nearly free at this point. What is the thing pictured below ...

It's among the last of the accessories and I'd like to know what it is so I can sell it, if it has any value. The guy had the room decorated with over 20 posters of famous movie billiard scenes, all of which I had to take and most of which I have sold. I kept the best of the cues ...I did not feel the need to have 24 cues (!!), so I sold a bunch after having them all evaluated.

Well, that's all for now. I'm back to work tomorrow after a two-week hiatus. My first two-week vacation in a decade. It was glorious. I wish I could afford to retire. I'm really good at waking up late and killing time.

Dean.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
