I suppose many US residents have at least seen headlines concerning the hunt for Eric Frein who is accused of ambushing two PA State Troopers late at night with a high powered sniper rifle outside the state police barracks in NE PA. Nine days in, they are still combing the woods for the guy who is supposed to be a skilled marksman and self-trained survivalist. The guy apparently has had some kind of grudge against police for some time. As far as I know, he has not had any police record.

On Wednesday night I saw pictures on the state lottery machines with a notice of a reward for him. A day or two later I saw a posting on Facebook of the same thing. The responses to the original post were amazing and a bit scary. I was surprised at the number of people who openly supported this guy on social media and even considered him some type of hero. While many more were in favor of grabbing a gun and joining the hunt (even some of those people scare me) I could not believe the number of people who took the side of this individual.

Condolences to the family and friends of the slain Trooper, and best wishes for the other one injured in the shooting.
