No, it is NOT a forum "dedicated to all types of talk"

It's meant to be family friendly, no politics, etc. But I'm as guilty as you in that regard.

As far as substance:

1. I don't think there was an "idea" at all. I think the invasion of Iraq, which I opposed from the outset, was a horrendously misguided action, with some of the consequences you describe but not with the goal you describe, and of course you have no proof of that. We, the USA, miscalculated and overreached believing that a more stable, friendly and democratic regime would result. We were naive and aggressive and should have kept the f#ck out.

2. There is no "they" with any such organized and sinister world view, at least not in the West. The West was not in agreement at the time and can barely agree on how to tie shoelaces, let alone on dominating the world and eradicating Islam. To me, that is just sheer silliness.

3. Putin's unforgivable actions in Russia and Ukraine have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with what's going on in the Middle East, and even he isn't making that claim as an excuse. And he can't given that Russia's campaign to bomb Chechnya back to the Sone Age started before 9/11..

Yes, we live in a glass house and shouldn't throw stones recklessly, but not every topic of conversation should have to lead to some broad based conspiracy claim or self-blaiming for all of the world's ills.
