I can't think of a better example of terrible modern corporate radio than this. I'm listening now and have been for half an hour during morning drive time. It's a sports radio station somewhere in Pennsylvania probably central southern PA about 80 miles or so away. Many of you know I'm a radio nerd/ham with lots of radios and antennas.

You see that's part of the problem, they don't tell you where they are! It's just "990 the Fan", you know that whole "branding" thing. So even the weather comes on and you don't know where it is for. Then there's the time which is always X minutes after the hour not just because of the different time zones served from a national feed but because they replay these shows too.

I heard this station over a year ago, it is a CBS sports radio affiliate. Somehow it hangs on, I don't know how. Even during drive time this morning they had sold very little ad time. In a five minute break almost everything was a PSA. Things like keep your fridge at 38 degrees or less for food safety and a bunch of other things from the Ad Council. The other "ads" were just promotions for other CBS sports radio programs and even CBS TV shows so almost no ad time sold.

Ah finally at the top of the hour they said Somerset, PA (85 miles or so from here) So just another tale of the sad state of modern radio. As I see it it's just as bad on FM. Thankfully there is 88-92 MhZ, AM should have a similar sector of the band.

Some might say well if CBS wants to take a loss in this market to serve their brand and the nationwide market then that's their prerogative. Sorry but that doesn't jive with the license agreement clauses to properly serve the community.
